Good Old Santa Hat gives a touch of luxury to the classic Santa hat that we all know and love 🙂
The hat is knit from the bottom up in the round as a seamless piece. The luxurious brim is first worked in a faux fur yarn, and the main part of the hat is then worked in merino wool. The crown of the hat is shaped with evenly spaced gradual decreases that give the characteristic pointy appearance.
To fit head circumference 49-51 (52-54) 55-57 (57-59) 59-61 cm [19.25-20 (20.50-21.25) 21.75-22.50 (22.50-23.25) 23.25-24 inches].
Hat circumference: approx. 47 (50) 52 (54) 56 cm [18.50 (19.75) 20.50 (21.25) 22 inches]
Length: approx. 37 (41) 49 (50) 53 cm [14.50 (16.25) 19.25 (19.75) 20.75 inches]
Yarn A (brim): approximately 13.5 stitches = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in stocking stitch on a 4.00 mm [US6] needle, measured after washing and blocking of a swatch.
Yarn B (hat): 22 stitches x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in stocking stitch on a 4.00 mm [US6] needle, measured after washing and blocking of a swatch.
4.00 mm [US6] circular needle, and 4.00 mm [US6] double-pointed needles to shape the crown of the hat if not using magic loop method.
Yarn A, for brim of the hat:
Approximately 50 (50) 50 (50-100) 50-100 g Go Handmade’s Fur Lux Shade 17660 Off-White (DK, 50 g = 27 m [30 yds]).
Yarn B, for main body of the hat:
Approximately 100 (100-150) 100-150 (100-150) 150-200 g Sandnes Merinoull Shade 4219 Red (DK, 50 g = 105 m [115 yds]).
Additional: 6 stitch markers, tapestry needle, white yarn to make pom-pom or faux fur pompom (diameter = 10 cm [2.5 inches]).
